Donations Needed for Electronics Explorations
William Kamkwamba begin his adventures in electronics by repairing broken radios in his village. As a part of our upcoming electronics unit, the Wolves will be dissecting electronic devices to discover the types and numbers of electronic components used in their design. We'd love to have broken or discarded electronics that you are willing to permanently part with (I can almost guarantee you will not be getting anything back in working order). Thanks in advance for your assistance! If you are able to donate items, we'd like to have them by Monday, November 16.
Science Fun!
We've had so much fun finishing up our work on our Environments unit, where we've been exploring the connections and interrelationships between organisms and their environments. We completed with a study of the range of tolerance in four types of plants. Enjoy a few images of their final data collection work.
Fifth and Sixth Grade Physical Education
Quote of the Month: “Whether you think you can or think you can’t you are right!”
Exercising has many healthful benefits. First, muscles grow when they are used. Unexercised muscles contract when they are not used. Muscles that become unaccustomed to exercise can be injured by sudden or strenuous activity. This is why muscles, including the heart, should be exercised regularly and in moderation. Students are continuously learning the names of the major muscle groups and bones in their bodies. Students are participating in physical activities and learning how to take their resting heart rate before their warm-up and after their cardiovascular workout. With this exercise students are implementing math into finding their pulse rate per minute.
Physical Education Procedures and Expectations:
- Respect yourself and others
- Wear appropriate clothing and gym shoes or close-toed shoes
- Walk in and out of the building quietly
- Be silent and listen when the teacher is speaking
- Follow directions
- Use equipment with permission only
The physical education program is designed to offer a wide variety of experiences and exposure of different games and activities for all students. The focus is on success, a high level of participation, enjoyment and development of cooperative skills to enable our students to work well with others and to achieve group goals.

A main concern is to instill a love for physical activity along with and understanding of the health benefits to be gained from involvement.

In this Unit they are learning how to make a Spanish question using: ¿Qué?, ¿cómo?, ¿quién? ¿Dónde? ¿Cuál?,¿Cuánto? One of the activities they did last class was to write a few questions asking a partner: What do you like?, and what you don’t like?, They had to write about their favorites foods, hobbies, sports and others. After that, they presented the conversation in front of the class. This week, we are going to continue with Spanish questions, and as a last project in this unit, they are going to write an informal interview asking questions about personal preferences. hobbies, etc. Also, they are going to be able to recognize a formal and an informal interview.
