We are racing headlong toward the end of the school year and are beginning our culminating projects, including designing the yearbook and creating our portfolios. With the end of the year also comes many events in which we share our learning with the Willowwind community and our families. Here are a few dates for your calendar:
May 5 - 3/4 Puppet Show and 5/6 Documentary (more information below)
May 10 - Willowwind Spelling Bee during GD for 1-6 classes (more information below)
May 19 - Portfolio Night for K-6 classes (more information below)
May 24 - K-6 Talent Show, 6th Grade Graduation, and Sleepover
May 25 - 8:00 A.M. Morning Pickup
Puppet Show and Documentary: Please save the date for this evening event, scheduled to begin at 5:30 PM. The 3rd through 6th graders will present their current projects. The Owls are preparing a puppet show about the human body and the Wolves are working on a documentary about plastic pollution in the oceans. Tickets for this show will be sold in advance, with proceeds to benefit both Owl and Wolf class trips. The Wolves will also sell a variety of healthful concession items at the showing for $1-$3.
Spelling Bee: Our traditional spelling bee will be held during GD on May 10. Students should already have the list of words to study if they wish to participate. Please let me know if you and your child need another copy. Please have a conversation about this with your child. This is another great opportunity for students to step out of their comfort zone and take a risk. Participating students will be expected to say the word, spell the word, and then say the word again. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. Happy studying!!
Portfolio Night: You're invited to join us for Willowwind School's Annual Portfolio Night!
Who: Willowwind students will present work from the school year to illustrate overall growth and progress in all areas of study. Please note, this event is mandatory for all K-6 students. Please let your classroom teacher know if an unavoidable conflict stands in the way.
Where: Willowwind School Classrooms
When: Thursday, May 19 from 5:30-6:15 p.m. for all K-6 Students.
Why: Portfolio Night and the preparation leading up to this event allow students to become reflective learners within their own education. Analyzing school work while preparing for Portfolio Night allows students take ownership of their school year and they progress they have made. Through parent participation, Portfolio Night provides students a platform to speak about their growth, building their public speaking skills in an informal, open house style forum. Students will be assigned a classroom based on their partner families. Click HERE to see your child’s Portfolio Night room assignment.
As always, please be in touch with questions! Thanks for your attention to the details during these busy last weeks of the school year.
