Specials
At Willowwind, students are provided with a broad range of experiences that encourage students to explore and develop their talents and interests beyond the classroom curriculum. As a result, Willowwind provides comprehensive instruction in art, music, Spanish, and movement. Students participate in each Specials classes for approximately 90+ minutes per week. Specials teachers collaborate with classroom teachers to plan for cross curricular integration and differentiation. Specials extend classroom learning while incorporating specific Arts and Language skills. For regular updates and more information from our Specials teachers please check out their newsletter postings under Newsletter's Specials subpage. You can also email your child's Specials teachers if specific questions or needs arise.
Fine Arts (Art & Music)
Willowwind is excited to offer students its Fine Arts class in a block schedule. Students will spend extensive time with either Art or Music for a number of weeks in a row. In doing so, Willowwind's Art and Music teachers can strengthen their time with students and further offer project-based activities to the class during this time.
Art - Ryan
During the Art block of our Fine Arts rotation, students will visit the Scholar's Studio three times weekly where they are exposed to a variety of mediums including watercolors, tempura paint, pencil, colored pencil, markers, clay, and oil pastels. Teaching is based on the elements of art and the principles of design. Projects are centered on artists and techniques and correlate with classroom instruction. For more information regarding yearlong art plans in grades K-6, please visit Ryan's Art Curriculum Map. You can contact Ryan at [email protected].
