As a reminder, we have two field trips this week:
Tuesday, January 19 ICPL Field Trip for History Fair research. Please send library cards.
Thursday, January 21 Field trip to the University of Iowa Libraries to attend the National History Day Research Workshop presented by the UIL Special Collections and Research Librarians. We are unable to print or copy at the UI Library. If you have one easily available, I recommend bringing a flash drive in order to save materials. I will have one for the class to use, but students find it more efficient to use their own if it is available.
History Fair Due Dates
History Fair is underway! I am very impressed with the depth in the topics chosen, the thought that is going into the research, and the tough questions that are being asked about events in history. We may be growing the next generation of advocates, ambassadors, and activists for human rights in the Wolves classroom. Knowing these students, I will not at all be surprised to see them change the world for themselves and others!
However, before we unleash these brilliant young minds to improve the world for all humankind, we do have a History Fair project to complete. As you help to guide your child through the process, here are the pertinent due dates:
History Fair Example Projects:
As we have been preparing our history day projects, we've found it very helpful to view example projects from prior years. The National History Day website maintains a page of examples projects here with award-winning websites and performances. Please note that many of the projects are for the senior (high school) division and represent a higher level of research and analysis than will be expected of our junior level competitors. However, these do provide a great inspiration for the students as they begin to assemble their own final products. Our competing 6th grade students will participate in the Junior Individual category.
Please be in touch with questions. I look forward to sharing the amazing information students are uncovering through their work. It is phenomenal!
