Debbie and I are thrilled to share that our plays will be presented in a new location this year: Riverside Theatre in downtown Iowa City! This new venue provides the Owls and Wolves with a real stage on which to present their work, and our audience with expanded seating to include more family and friends and improved views of their young performers. We are so excited for our experience in a real theater and deeply appreciate this new partnership with Riverside Theatre.
Tickets are limited to 118 for the performance. With 17 students in the Wolf class and 16 in the Owls class, seats will go fairly quickly. Tickets are free, but we are asking you to please pick up a ticket for each person who will attend the show. We will begin distributing tickets on Tuesday, April 24, at Willowwind's front desk.
Your children have begun the process of collecting props, costumes, and items needed for sets. We may ask to borrow items or for the donation of consumables at no or very minimal cost. Your student will take charge of this and may simply need to communicate with you regarding permission to borrow items. Please clearly label all items from your personal collections so that they can be returned after the play.
The week of the play, we will schedule dress rehearsals at Riverside Theatre. Dates and times will be announced as soon as we have the schedule finalized. The day of the play, I recommend that students simply stay with me at the 2 PM dismissal time. We will have an early light dinner, take a recess break, run lines, and travel to the theatre. If you prefer to pick up your child at 2 PM, please return him or her to Riverside Theatre by 5:15 to prepare for showtime. We should be finished and ready to go home by 7:30-7:45 PM, after all students help to strike our set. This job will go quickly with many hands to help.
I've given you lots to digest in one note. Please be in touch with any questions. If you'd like to help with set up or tear down the week of the play, drop me a note. It is a big job and I would appreciate any muscle I can borrow!
Theatrically,
Rachel
